How many tracks can I submit?
As many as you want, but start with 3 at a time unless you want to send us a full album on CD.
Even if just one of your tracks gets approved, you can go ahead and send some more.
When i submit an album do i have to send you each track in an email so they can be checked to see if they get accepted or what?
Yes, each track needs to be reviewed by our A&R team.
Let's say you have an album featuring 18 tracks out of which 3 tracks contains portions of uncleared material (samples etc.), we would then release a digital version featuring the other 15 tracks only.
This after we have both agreed to do so, of course.
Can I submit any kind of music or do you only put out selected styles?
As the name "mixtape" suggests we focus mainly on what's considered "Urban" music. And whatever
is "street" works for us: Hip Hop, RnB, Reggae, Dancehall, Reggaeton are perfect but that doesn't
exclude local variations such as UK Garage, 2Step, Drum n Bass, Big Beat and so on. Whatever music you have, from Hip Hop to House to Metal, we'd like to hear it and see if it's suitable for our mixtapes.
Even Spoken Word is allowed. It doesn't cost you anything to submit your music (Exclusive &
Non-Exclusive deals), via e-mail. In 5 minutes, you're done. Our A&R panel is happy to listen to your
stuff, that's what they are here for!
Do you only release mixtapes?
No. We may release individual artists' singles, EPs, or albums, or compilation EPs or albums, in
digital or traditional form. Our main focus, though, is releasing mixtapes of various artists' singles
in digital form.
I'm a producer, I only have instrumentals...
Well, you are in the right place! We have an extensive series dedicated to beats & instrumentals only mixtapes. We believe producers are the backbone of music and have been struggling too hard to get
a foot inside the music industry. We want to change that (see our mission section). In other words,
if you are a producer we want to hear you.
So say i submit my album, now i need art work right? and could i sell a beat to a local artist that
I submitted?
Our graphic team can design the artwork for you.
This is free of charge if submitting a few tracks for a compilation album or mixtape.
If submitting your own full album you can benefit of our special rates of $50 per cover (you can still use the cover for any use outside mp3mixtape.com).
And yes, as far as we are concerned you can still sell your beats - just mention that your beats
are already on sale as instrumentals by digital stores.
How much money do I make?
It varies because digital stores sell downloads at different prices.
Some pay you for the streams too, others are based on subscription services.
Roughly, you are looking at $0,50 per download. Example with iTunes:
download price = $0,99
wholesale price (what they pay to labels) = $0.700
- 25% (= $0,175) = $0,525 to you
Are your mp3 mixtapes mixed by DJs?
Some are, some aren't. We try to respect all DJs vision as well as artist/labels requirements,
so you can have a DJ realeasing a mixtape with crazy mixes, scratches and so on. Or you can have a mixtape just compiled by a DJ or even without featuring any DJ at all. In each and every case we like to stay flexible and allow creativity flow through, at the same time without damaging artist moral rights.
Each mixtape is treated as a release on its own.
